Police cordoned off the Los Angeles house of "7th Heaven" actor and accused pedophile Stephen Collins Tuesday night after receiving a call of a possible gunshot inside the residence, police said.
Rumors of a suicide spread rapidly on social media, but investigators ruled the call a false alarm, police said. It began when actress Donna D'Errico went on Twitter to write, "That guy from 7th Heaven lives right around the corner from me & just shot himself a few minutes ago…"
"It was the residence of Stephen Collins, but there was no shooting," Lt. Robert Davis, the watch commander for the LAPD West Valley division, told the Daily News.
"There was a news crew outside that heard a sound inside the residence that sounded like a pop, and they thought it might have been a gunshot," he said. "We investigated and ultimately determined that Mr. Collins is alive and well. He was never even there."
